Anna Maria travels and teaches on her own as well as joins the Craft South pop-up crew for exciting happenings. You'll find dates for all of those events on this page. We often add events (like a workshop date) to this page as a placeholder before we have all the details finalized (like sign-ups listed) so that you can mark your calendars and check back. When we do have sign-ups necessary for an event, we will add the links here when they are live. And sometimes the events are hosted by others so we try to add links that go straight to the host for more information. See you soon!

Applique Stories @ MISA / Tucson

Learn to see fabrics in a completely different way as you hunt for special elements to play starring roles or the supporting cast in your Applique Story! Projects can be framed as artwork, become a special cushion or the beginning of a larger quilt. Combining Anna Maria’s interest in art composition and handwork, she presents a class that covers all of the techniques necessary to create a visual feast of fabric and stitching. Multiple techniques for applique, raw and turned, (and even machine applique if desired) will be presented throughout the week. Anna Maria will also share all of her color sensibilities and diverse stitching knowledge to help you imbue your piece with personality and interest.

QUILT CON PHOENIX

After 20 years of quilting, Anna Maria has noticed certain structures that she revisits and remakes continually. Changing technique, palette, and proportion feeds her curiosity, yet with comfort in a familiar structure. If applying art world terms, these pursuits could be described simply as "variation on a theme". There is a thrill with just how different one can make very similarly structured quilts. As someone who has developed a love for remodeling and floor plans, Anna Maria has unintentionally thought of her quilt structures as "blueprints". She spontaneously used the term in a lecture when she was trying to get across the concept. Just as you can keep the basic footprint of a house the same but completely change look and feel by how you develop each space within in it, you can remodel your favorite quilt structure over and over again with an exciting new result each time. Blueprint Quilting shares diverse and beautiful adaptations of Anna Maria’s favorite quilt structures while breaking down the making process of each piece to its very relatable core.
